Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State, on Wednesday, inaugurated Enugu State Judicial Service Commission for effective judicial system in the state.
The commission which is chaired by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Raymond Ozoemena, has the President, Customary Court of Appeal, Justice George Nnamani and the State Attorney General and commissioner for Justice, Mr Kingsley Udeh, as members.
Others are Justice Reuben Onuoha Rtd., Prof. Andrew Chukwuemelie, Mr Onuegbu Agbo and Dr Uchechukwu Eze.
Inaugurating the commission, Mbah charged the members to entrench their wealth of experience in the system, describing the commission as one of the foremost commissions in the state.
According to him, the members shoulders the huge responsibility of ensuring the welfare and employment of the judicial officers in the state.
“We took our time to select those who made it as members of this commission.
”We are aware of your profile and reputation will precede you.
“And we have no doubt given your wealth of experience which you will bring into bare to the activities of the Commission,” he said
Mbah recalled in his one year anniversary address, he applied a number of reforms and steps which judiciary was among.
“This is in line with the government objective to grow our economy, one of the indicators of ease of doing business and an enforcement of contract.
“All these won’t happen if we don’t have a sound judicial system,” he stressed.
The governor stated that some of the reforms the government embarked upon, though, in advance level, included the digitalization of the processes and procedures in courts.
This, he noted, would eliminate the burden of long hand of reporting to allow the judges to be more effective.
“We have also created specialized court in the state to fast track access to justice .
Responding on behalf of other members of the commission, Ozoemena thanked Mbah for finding them worthy for the job and assured him of their commitment to discharging their duties diligently.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Judicial Service Commission is a statutory body responsible for, among other functions, the appointment, promotion and discipline of Judicial and non-Judicial Staff in the state civil service. (NAN)
