Medical Initiative for Africa (MIFA) donates relief materials to NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received a donation of 100 pieces of Mosquito nets from a non-governmental organization, Medical Initiative for Africa (MIFA) for distribution to persons affected by recent flood disaster in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The Director General NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar received the items from President of MIFA Dr Taiwo Fasoranti in Abuja.


The lead advisory committee of MIFA, led by the Vice President Dr. Agbor Neji Ebuta, who represented the President Dr. Fasoranti during the visit to NEMA Headquarters today and donated the items also said the organization was desirous to explore areas of partnership with the Agency.

He commended NEMA for being proactive in delivery of its mandates and urged the Director General Mrs. Zubaida Umar to sustain the good job to deepen the emergency management landscape in Nigeria.

He said MIFA had over 10 decades of multiple health sector intervention, and will not relent in engaging stakeholders to ensure that the quality of life of Africans is impacted positively in any way possible.

Dr Ebuta highlighted the need for the public and other well-meaning organizations to continue to channel their donations, through NEMA, given the robust network, field experience and networking capacity of NEMA as intervention body of repute.


The MIFA team also committed to further engagement with NEMA with a view to providing supports in the form of advisory and strategic resources like training opportunities, medical supplies, psychological care amongst others.

Responding, the Director General NEMA Mrs Zubaida Umar expressed delight for the donation and promised to deliver the items to the target beneficiaries. She commended MIFA for its generosity and concern to support disaster affected persons in the country.

In the team MIFA were Dr’s Ishaku Ibbi, a Consultant Family Physician in charge of medical engagements, and Dr Chucks Atama, a Consultant Behavioral Physician who coordinates its mental health care Department.
