Minister of power, Olasunkanmi Tegbe, Denies Promising To Fix Nigeria’s Grid In Three Months

President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe

Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has denied reports claiming he promised to fix the country’s electricity grid within three months, describing the reports as false and misleading.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Adeola Adelabu, Tegbe clarified that he never made such a commitment during his Senate screening on May 6, 2026.

According to the statement, the minister-designate explained that timelines for reforms in the power sector are still being developed and would depend on technical assessments and consultations with stakeholders.

The clarification followed widespread reports suggesting Tegbe pledged to completely resolve Nigeria’s electricity grid challenges within three months.

The statement noted that while Tegbe assured lawmakers that efforts to stabilise the national grid would begin within his first 100 days in office, broader structural reforms would take longer.
