The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has challenged Governor Hyacinth Alia to publicly name the politicians he accused of being behind the recent killings in the state.
The PDP described the governor’s claims as “irresponsible” and “dangerously distracted” from addressing the security crisis.
“We find it concerning and disturbing that Governor Alia would accuse Benue’s political officeholders in Abuja of being the primary cause of security challenges facing our state,” PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Tim Nyor, said. “This is an attempt at political escapism, and we urge him to focus on concrete, inclusive, and responsible security strategies”.
– The party noted that Benue’s security challenges are not unique, citing similar threats in neighboring states like Plateau and Taraba, which have adopted more responsible approaches.
– They questioned the logic behind blaming Abuja representatives for attacks in Benue, pointing out that herdsmen attacks predated Governor Alia’s administration.
– PDP emphasized that reckless scapegoating would undermine genuine efforts to address insecurity.
“If Governor Alia genuinely believes his claims, he should present comprehensive security reports to the relevant authorities for appropriate action rather than resorting to baseless propaganda,” the party stated. “Genuine leadership requires honesty, responsibility, and a unifying spirit”.
The PDP urged Governor Alia to abandon the politics of blame and work towards addressing the root causes of insecurity in Benue State.
