Nasarawa United has been handed a severe punishment by the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) for breaching the league’s framework and rules during their match against Plateau United.
The Lafia-based club has been charged with failing to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorized persons to gain access to restricted areas, and harassing the visiting team and match officials.
Furthermore, Nasarawa United supporters’ misconduct led to the attack on Plateau United players, including a vicious assault on Vincent Temitope, which intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
The NPFL has taken a stern stance, banishing Nasarawa United to play their remaining home matches at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.
The club has also been slapped with hefty fines totaling N6 million, broken down into N2 million for failing to provide security and ensure proper fan conduct, N3 million for persistent breaches of NPFL rules, and N1 million for Vincent Temitope’s medical expenses and compensation.
These sanctions aim to maintain discipline and order in Nigerian football, emphasizing the importance of fan conduct and club responsibility. The NPFL’s decisive action sends a strong message to clubs to prioritize fan behavior and security.
The sanctions are expected to serve as a deterrent to other clubs, promoting a safer and more respectful environment for players, officials, and fans alike.
