The Nigerian Navy plans to incorporate the amphibious battalion with the Army, and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in the next simulation amphibious exercise.
The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Doctrine Command, Rear Adm. Shehu Gombe said this on Sunday during the 2024 Simulation of Amphibious Operation held at Tarkwa Bay, Lagos State.
Gombe said that the exercise was a partnership between the French Navy and the Nigerian Navy (NN) simulating a hostage taking situation and recovering them.
“We had the French Navy assets, both vehicles and their Special Boat Service (SBS) Army, with NN ships, SBS, and helicopters partaking in the exercise.
“The exercise scenario ran very well and we were able to recover the hostages and also able to carry out medical evacuation and amphibious landing and it was successful,” he said.
The FOC also said that the amphibious battalion commander, NAF, CO 65 and their amphibious boat were present at the simulation exercise as observers.
“The Nigerian Army were also there as observers.
“When next we are carrying out a bigger simulation wherever they decide, we will incorporate them and it will be joint,” he said.
Gombe said that exercise like this helps keep troops battle ready and sharp should there be a real need for them to be called upon to bring their training to bare. (NAN)
