The National Democratic Coalition (NDC) has declared that it will take every legitimate step to protect the votes of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said it would not allow any attempt to manipulate the electoral process, stressing that the outcome of the election must reflect the choice of the people.
NDC spokesman, Osa Director, stated this in a post on X on Sunday while sharing the position of the party’s National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses.
Moses warned that the party would resist what he described as intimidation and attacks against its members, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of desperation ahead of the polls.
“The National Chairman of the NDC, Senator Cleopas Moses, has vowed that the NDC will not lie down and be rolled over by the diabolical ruling APC,” the statement said.
The party chairman alleged that recent attacks on NDC members, including an incident in Enugu, were linked to efforts to weaken the opposition ahead of the elections.
He said: “The desperation of the APC, which has led to its orchestration of violence against NDC members — the latest of which occurred in Enugu yesterday — will henceforth be resisted by every legitimate means.”
The NDC further warned political actors against interfering with the will of voters, insisting that every ballot cast by Nigerians must be respected.
The party stated: “Allow votes to count, or they will be counted.”
Ahead of the 2027 elections, the NDC announced plans to unveil its Presidential Campaign Council on October 20, while recruitment of party agents has commenced across the country.
The party said the recruitment process was designed to ensure that trained and committed agents would monitor polling units and protect votes during the election.
According to the statement, the party is taking lessons from Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign on the platform of the Labour Party by building a stronger nationwide structure.
The NDC said Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, were working in line with the party’s leadership and described them as a “viable option” for Nigerians seeking political change.
The party ended its message with its declaration: “A New Nigeria is POssible. We can do it!”
