Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the commencement of the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for aspirants seeking to contest elective positions on the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the party said the sale of Expression of Interest Forms will begin on Wednesday, May 13, and close on Monday, May 18, 2026.
According to the timetable unveiled by the party, the screening and interview of aspirants will take place between Tuesday, May 19, and Thursday, May 21, 2026. The exercise, the party explained, will determine the eligibility of aspirants before they proceed to purchase nomination forms.
The NDC urged all aspirants to appear for the screening with relevant credentials and supporting documents.
The party disclosed that the sale of Nomination Forms will commence immediately after the screening exercise and run from Thursday, May 21, to Saturday, May 23, while completed forms must be submitted on or before Monday, May 25, 2026.
Appeals arising from the screening process are expected to be heard between May 25 and May 26, while primary elections for various elective offices have been scheduled for May 27 and May 28, 2026.
The presidential primary election will hold on Friday, May 29, 2026, in Abuja.
Under the approved fee structure released by the party, aspirants seeking the presidential ticket are expected to pay a total of N60 million, comprising N20 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N40 million for the Nomination Form.
Governorship aspirants will pay N30 million in total, while Senate aspirants are to pay N8 million. Those seeking seats in the House of Representatives will pay N6 million, while State House of Assembly aspirants are expected to pay N2.5 million.
The party noted that female aspirants and persons living with disabilities (PWDs) will enjoy discounts across all categories, paying 50 per cent and 25 per cent respectively.
The NDC also revealed that it would adopt the “open secret ballot” system during its primaries, describing the move as part of efforts to ensure transparency, fairness, credibility, and internal democracy within the party.
According to the statement, governorship primaries will be conducted at the local government level, while screening for National Assembly and presidential aspirants will take place at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja. Screening for State House of Assembly aspirants, however, will be conducted in their respective states.
The party further stated that all aspirants would be required to sign an undertaking in line with the party’s code of conduct and guidelines.
The NDC maintained that its nomination fees remain among the lowest when compared with those of other major political parties in the country.
