National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), has received 178 Nigerian nationals who returned from Tripoli, Libya, under the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) Programme.
The returnees arrived at about 4:00 p.m. on Monday, 10 August 2026, aboard an Air Buraq Airlines flight, Registration No. 5A-BAE, which landed at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State.
The programme is coordinated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria as part of ongoing efforts to facilitate the safe, orderly and dignified return of Nigerian citizens.
The returnees comprised 165 adults, including 127 males and 38 females; 10 children, comprising five males and five females; and three infants, comprising one male and two females.
Upon arrival, officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration and documentation of the returnees to ensure proper identification and record-keeping while supporting the subsequent reintegration process.
NEMA and its partner agencies also coordinated immediate humanitarian assistance for the returnees, including food and potable water, medical screening and ambulance services for those requiring medical attention, luggage handling and other logistical support.
The reception also included counselling and reintegration support aimed at helping the returnees transition safely and successfully back into their communities.
The agency said the exercise reflects the continued collaboration among NEMA, NCFRMI, IOM, NIS and other relevant stakeholders in providing coordinated humanitarian support to Nigerians returning from abroad.
NEMA said it remains committed to supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to ensure that returning Nigerians are received with dignity, provided with immediate assistance and linked to appropriate reintegration support.
