The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission NERC has dissolved the board of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company plc with immediate effect.
This follows severe financial insolvency accumulating to the tune of 456.5 billion Naira.
NERC in a statement explains that the utility remitted only 41.93 percent of its adjusted market invoices in 2025, recorded losses of 71.88 percent, invested only 2.48 billion Naira against a capital requirement of 24.51 billion Naira, and maintained customer metering coverage of less than 36 percent.
To ensure uninterrupted service delivery and operational stability of the Distribution Company, NERC constitutes an interim board of Special Directors to be chaired by Dr. Abdullahi Garba, while Dr. Abubakar Umar Hashidu has been appointed as Administrator for an initial six month term.
Also Afrexim is to coordinate a transparent 12-month competitive process to secure a competent replacement core investor.
NERC assures that electricity distribution services across the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company franchise area remain safe and uninterrupted.
