Nigeria’s U17 women football team, Flamingos has qualified for the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after producing a superb 3-1 victory over Brazil in their semi-final clash yesterday evening.
The game played at the Mohammed 5th Stadium in Morocco was a goalless first half, where Nigeria dominated their South American opponents, and the Flamingos returned with renewed determination to score three goals in a commanding second-half performance.
Queen Joseph broke the deadlock in the 56th minute to give Nigeria the deserved lead before Awawu Bashiru doubled the advantage in the 71st minute.
Bashiru was on target again in the 80th minute, completing her brace and putting Nigeria firmly in control of the encounter.
Brazil managed to pull one back through Greise Kelly in the 89th minute, but the late consolation goal was not enough to prevent Nigeria from securing an emphatic victory.
The final whistle sparked celebrations as the Flamingos sealed their place in the final, moving one step closer to making history at the tournament.
Nigeria will now face Japan in Saturday’s final, with the young Nigerians hoping to crown their impressive campaign with the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup title.
