Nigerian Army Denies Haruna Gololo Is Retired General, Faults Sahara Reporters

Nigerian Army has debunked claims that Haruna Garba Gololo, popularly known as Garus Gololo, is a retired General in the Nigerian Army, describing reports circulating in the media as false and misleading.

In a disclaimer issued on Tuesday, the Army specifically reacted to a publication by [Sahara Reporters](https://saharareporters.com?utm_source=chatgpt.com) titled, “Retired Nigerian Army General Arrested in Abuja After Criticising Senate President Akpabio Over 2027 Comments.”

The Nigerian Army said the description of Gololo as a retired General was inaccurate and capable of creating a wrong impression among members of the public.

“The Nigerian Army wishes to categorically state that Mr Haruna Garba Gololo is neither a retired officer nor a General in the Nigerian Army,” the statement read.

It further stressed that portraying him as a retired senior military officer was “false, misleading, and capable of creating wrong impressions in the minds of the public.”

The Army also urged media organisations to verify information before publication, especially on matters concerning the Armed Forces and national institutions.

“Consequently, it is imperative that media organisations exercise due diligence and uphold the principles of accuracy, fairness, and responsible journalism in matters relating to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and national institutions,” the statement added.

The Nigerian Army called on media platforms that published the report to make necessary corrections in order to curb the spread of misinformation.

“The public is therefore urged to disregard the misleading attribution and be properly guided. The Nigerian Army further calls on relevant media platforms to correct the misrepresentation in order to prevent the spread of misinformation capable of undermining public trust and institutional integrity,” it stated.

Reaffirming its commitment to national service, the Army maintained that it remains focused on professionalism, transparency, and the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
