NPF nabs romance scammer, fake Police Commissioner , property fraudster

The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, NPF-NCCC, is stepping up its offensive against cyber fraud, impersonation and other technology-enabled crimes.

The Centre said its latest operations have uncovered cases of romance scams, property fraud and police impersonation, among other cyber-related offences.

Investigators also recovered more than 12.5 million victim email logs linked to cases spanning over 50 countries, underscoring the growing transnational dimension of cybercrime.

The NPF-NCCC is cautioning Nigerians against falling victim to fake investment platforms promoted through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

The Centre said its growing capacity in digital forensics, open-source intelligence, financial investigation, network analysis and cryptocurrency tracing is helping investigators expose increasingly sophisticated cybercrime operations.

It also stressed the importance of international cooperation, particularly through information-sharing mechanisms under the Budapest Convention framework, in the fight against transnational cybercrime.
