Ogun police bust cult initiation plot, arrest Eiye leader, foil robbery operation and recover stolen property

Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime, arresting a suspected cult leader, foiling an armed robbery operation, preventing a mob attack on a suspect, and recovering stolen property in a series of coordinated operations across the state.

The operations, carried out by officers attached to the Mowe, Ago-Iwoye and Warewa Divisions, led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Ewebiyi Afeez, 26; Segun Ona Anjo, 32; and Umar Sulaiman.

According to the Command, the successes were achieved through intelligence-driven policing, proactive surveillance and swift operational responses aimed at denying criminal elements safe haven in Ogun State.

In one of the operations, police operatives in Mowe arrested Ewebiyi Afeez, alleged to be a leader of the notorious Eiye Confraternity in the area.

Security sources disclosed that the arrest followed credible intelligence indicating that the group was planning an initiation exercise designed to recruit new members and expand its activities within the Mowe axis.

Acting on the information, officers intensified surveillance and strategically deployed personnel to disrupt the planned event.

The operation led to the arrest of the suspect before the initiation could take place.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted his leadership role within the cult group and confessed to involvement in cult-related activities. Police authorities said he has been transferred to the appropriate unit for further investigation and prosecution.

In a separate operation, officers attached to the Ago-Iwoye Division responded to a distress call involving the violent robbery of a commercial motorcyclist along the Ita-Merin area of Ago-Iwoye.

Police investigations revealed that on June 16, 2026, the victim was attacked by two passengers he had conveyed on his motorcycle. The assailants allegedly used a hammer to strike him repeatedly on the head and other parts of the body before making away with his motorcycle.

Following the attack, residents reportedly pursued the fleeing suspects and succeeded in apprehending one of them, identified as Segun Ona Anjo.

However, before the situation could degenerate into mob justice, police operatives arrived at the scene, restored order and took the suspect into custody.

The stolen motorcycle and the hammer allegedly used during the attack were recovered as exhibits.

Preliminary findings suggest that the suspects operated a coordinated criminal scheme targeting commercial motorcyclists, particularly along isolated routes. Investigators also linked the arrested suspect to similar incidents within the area, raising concerns about the existence of a wider criminal network.

Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing accomplice and dismantle the syndicate.

Meanwhile, detectives from the Warewa Division uncovered what investigators described as a stolen property network and arrested Umar Sulaiman in connection with the illegal disposal of a 10KVA generator valued at ₦650,000.

The case began after the owner reported that the generator, which had been rented out for legitimate business purposes, was unlawfully diverted and sold for only ₦15,000.

Acting on intelligence, detectives tracked the transaction to the Kara-Isheri area, where the suspect was allegedly caught dismantling the generator into parts.

Several components of the generator were recovered during the operation and have been retained as exhibits.

The Ogun State Police Command said the operations underscore its commitment to proactive policing, crime prevention and public safety across the state.

The Command reiterated its resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations while encouraging residents to continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in tackling crime and maintaining law and order.
