Dr Abass Mimiko, Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate for the Nov. 16 governorship election in Ondo State has called on residents to vote for qualified candidates instead of rotational arrangements.
Mimiko, who is the younger brother of former governor Olusegun Mimiko, made the call during a media chat on Thursday in Akure.
According to the candidate, time has come for the state to have an efficient running system that is productive for the people before talking of rotational arrangements.
“In Ondo State, we have to understand one thing, we are running basically on federal allocation. It’s extremely important that we have a leader that can use what we have to get what we want.
“So, what I’m saying in essence is that, we need quality and qualified people. First and foremost, let this system run efficiently, then if we like, we can make rotation a law.
“It is like we are on a flight, and the plane is about to crash. We want the best pilot in the world to pilot that plane to safety, not the ones that come from a particular neighborhood.
“That’s my own challenge with regards to if its the turn of the south, north or central. We need to have a system where every mother feeds herself and her children.
“Where every father goes home proudly in the evening with money in his pocket to take care of the school fees of his children.
“We can’t do rotation now. Let’s get the best of the best and forget about the idea of rotation now, because we’re dying of hunger, we’re dying of disease.
“Our children are dropping out of school because parents could not pay school fees. It’s not time to think in terms of rotation. Maybe when we have the luxury of success in the future,” he said.
Mimiko, therefore, tasked Ondo State residents to vote for the most qualified candidate in terms of manifesto.
“If my manifesto is not sound enough, and Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s manifesto is more sound, people should go for him. If it is Agboola Ajayi’s manifesto that is sound, people shoulf go for the best.
“The issue of security will be one of my cardinal points when i become the governor, so let the people of the state vote for me in the next governorship election,” he said. (NAN)
