Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the current administration’s commitment to eliminating abandoned infrastructure across the nation’s capital, highlighting significant milestones in completing inherited projects alongside ongoing new initiatives.
Speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Wike emphasized that the FCT Administration has taken aggressive steps to finish long-standing developments left behind by previous governments, ensuring that public resources invested over the years yield concrete results.
The Minister provided a breakdown of the inherited portfolio, noting that the vast majority of projects taken over from prior administrations have now reached full completion
He said that out of 25 inherited projects from former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, 23 have been completed, while work remains actively ongoing on the final two.
He added that out of eight inherited projects dating back to the administrations of former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, six have been successfully finished, leaving two ongoing projects actively progressing toward delivery.
“Together, the figures showed that 29 out of 33 legacy projects, over 87% of all inherited initiatives, have been successfully completed, with active operations underway to finish the remaining four.
Alongside the drive to finalize inherited contracts, Wike highlighted rapid execution across newly initiated capital projects under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
According to him, out of 107 capital projects launched in the FCT under the current government, 76 have already been completed, with 10 more slated for official commissioning ahead of January.
The Minister assured residents that all remaining ongoing works will be completed before the expiration of President Tinubu’s tenure.
“In the history of the FCT, no government has done what we have done in Abuja,” Wike stated, challenging critics to inspect the completed sites and ongoing infrastructure works across the territory.
