Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of senior citizens by announcing an aggressive roadmap to eliminate all outstanding gratuity arrears in Oyo State.

Speaking at a recent engagement with stakeholders, the Governor revealed that his administration has successfully disbursed ₦25 billion to date, clearing a significant portion of the debt inherited from previous governments.

To ensure a “zero-backlog” status before the transition of power, Governor Makinde has approved an upward review of monthly allocations to ₦3 billion.

The Governor emphasized that the welfare of those who served the state is a non-negotiable priority of his “Omituntun 2.0” agenda. By increasing the monthly commitment, the state aims to provide financial security and dignity to thousands of households.

“Our administration has already cleared the ₦25 billion backlog of gratuity,” Governor Makinde stated. “I have now approved ₦3 billion monthly to clear all remaining gratuities so that we owe no retirees by the end of my administration on 29th May 2027.”

Under the current administration, Oyo State has maintained a consistent record of paying salaries and pensions on the “25th of every month.” This latest move to institutionalize the clearing of gratuities further cements Governor Makinde’s reputation as a “pensioner-friendly” leader, focusing on sustainable economic relief for the state’s workforce and its veterans.
