Oyo Police Investigate Alleged Bandit Threat Note

Oyo State Police Command has intensified security measures in Ikoyi-Ile following the discovery of a handwritten note allegedly from bandits threatening the community.

The note, reportedly written in both Yoruba and English, was found in front of a residential building in Ikoyi-Ile, Orire Local Government Area.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command said the report was treated with utmost seriousness. “Upon receipt of this report, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, immediately activated the Command’s intelligence, tactical, and operational response architecture,” the statement read.

According to the police, the State Intelligence Department (SID) and tactical units have begun intensive debriefings of individuals connected with the note, while operational units were swiftly deployed across Ikoyi-Ile and surrounding communities.

“To ensure the safety of residents, armed patrols, stop-and-search operations, intelligence surveillance, and strategic area domination have been significantly reinforced. Police personnel are currently on 24-hour high alert, maintaining a sustained presence to deny criminal elements any opportunity to operate,” DSP Olayinka added.

The Oyo State Police Command emphasized that it is conducting a thorough, intelligence-driven investigation into the origin, authenticity, and intent of the note. “Every lead is being pursued, and no effort will be spared in uncovering the truth behind this threat and ensuring that any individuals or groups found responsible are decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

The command also sought to reassure the public, urging residents not to panic. “Robust security measures have been fully activated and are already in place to safeguard lives and property,” DSP Olayinka said. The police also encouraged citizens to continue their daily activities while remaining vigilant and to report any suspicious persons or activities through official channels.
