PANDEF Pays Emotional Tribute to Edwin Clark One Year After His Death

Late elder statesman, Edwin Clark

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has paid glowing tribute to late elder statesman Edwin Clark, one year after his death, describing his legacy as enduring and his influence as still powerful across Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Godknows Igali, the group said Clark remained a towering figure whose ideals of justice, unity and fairness continue to guide the nation.

The tribute, titled “One Year Gone, and Your Presence Is Still Mighty”, reflected on the life and times of the late Niger Delta leader, who passed away at the age of 98 after decades of public service.

“Today, we specially remember with fondest memories our father, leader, national icon and statesman, Chief EK Clark, OFR, CON,” PANDEF stated.

“One year its like just yesterday. After 98 years of labour and devotion to building our nation Nigeria to where truth, justice, fairness and harmony reigns, you departed with those final words, ‘I am a Nigeria, I love Nigeria.’”

The forum noted that Clark’s relentless struggle for the unity and development of the Niger Delta and the South-South region remains one of his most enduring contributions.

“But more, your toil for the unity, solidarity, national relevance of the Niger Delta, yes the entire South-South geopolitical zone will for endless generations be celebrated and adulated,” the statement read.

Describing him as a fearless advocate and reformer, PANDEF praised his courage and consistency in speaking truth to power.

“A game changer you were, your memory and voice remained firm, astute and unfailingly till the torch-line. Like a lion, your courage was unmatched and resonated large and wide,” the group added.

PANDEF further expressed confidence that Clark’s vision for Nigeria would continue to inspire future generations.

“Thank God, your vision on all fronts remains aglow and the zeal shall certaindly not flounder,” the statement said.

As part of activities marking the first anniversary of his passing, PANDEF announced a special memorial service in his honour.

“Even as we remember you in Special Memorial Service at your Edwin Clark University, today rest on dear daddy, ‘Gogorogo’,” the statement concluded.

The tribute was dated February 17, 2026.

Chief Edwin Clark was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost nationalist leaders and a leading voice of the Niger Delta. Throughout his life, he championed resource control, regional development, good governance and national unity, earning him respect across political and ethnic lines.

His passing in 2025 marked the end of an era, but PANDEF insists that his ideals and sacrifices remain alive in the nation’s ongoing quest for justice, equity and harmony.
