Pastor Tola Odutola has advised married men to always wear their wedding rings, saying it helps show they are married and can discourage other women from approaching them.
The pastor said the advice is his personal opinion and not a biblical command.
He said, “I just have a problem with men who are married that don’t use their rings. This is me. I just have a problem with it. So I’m not saying this one is inside the scripture, but this is just me.”
Odutola questioned why some men stop wearing their rings after gaining weight instead of replacing them with a bigger size.
He said, “When you started, did you not start with a ring?… Oh, Pastor, you know, I’ve grown so big. You can change the ring now to the new size now.”
The cleric said women he described as “Delilahs” may not fear a wedding ring, but it still tells people that a man is already married.
He said, “Now, do the Delilahs of this world, of this age, do they fear your ring? Really? No but at least your ring will help for somebody to say, ‘You know this guy.'”
Odutola added jokingly that a man’s appearance can also make it harder for women with bad intentions to approach him.
He further said, “Ask yourself, how do I show up?” while encouraging people to pay attention to how they present themselves.
His comments have sparked conversations online about marriage, faith, personal responsibility and whether wearing a wedding ring can help strengthen commitment and discourage unwanted advances.
