Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it is awaiting the judgment of the court in its suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the recognition of its Interim National Working Committee (NWC).
The party disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Interim National Working Committee through the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.
According to the statement, the matter came up for hearing before the court, where counsel representing all the parties adopted their respective processes before the judge.
Following the proceedings, the court adjourned the case for judgment, with the date to be communicated later.
The suit was filed by the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP, seeking an order directing INEC to recognise the Interim National Working Committee constituted by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
The party also used the opportunity to dismiss reports claiming that some of its candidates were preparing to institute legal action against the party’s leadership under the chairmanship of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
Describing the reports as false, the PDP said there had been no complaint or threat of litigation from any of its candidates.
“These rumours are entirely false and are nothing more than the product of mischief. There has not been a single complaint, let alone any threat of legal action, by any of our candidates,” the statement said.
The party added that its candidates have continued to maintain regular communication with the leadership and are being kept informed of developments.
“On the contrary, all the Party’s candidates have remained in constant communication with the leadership and are regularly briefed on ongoing developments,” the statement added.
The PDP urged members of the public, media organisations and journalists to disregard what it described as false reports and rely only on information released through its official communication channels.
It further alleged that those behind the rumours were attempting to create confusion within the party.
“Such rumours are being propagated by ill-wishers and PDP pretenders, who are APC apologists, in a desperate attempt to mislead the public and create unnecessary confusion,” the statement said.
