The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a scathing attack on the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, over his claim that the opposition party has ceased to function as a viable political force following a wave of defections.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the PDP described Morka’s remarks as “unfortunate and delusional,” accusing the ruling APC of orchestrating the very defections it now cites as evidence of the PDP’s weakness.
The opposition party said it had reviewed the statement credited to Morka and rejected the assertion that the Peoples Democratic Party had effectively collapsed.
“We have read a statement credited to the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, claiming that the Peoples Democratic Party is no longer a political party because of the defection of some political office holders – a strategy curated and executed by the APC itself. This statement is most unfortunate and a clear indication that Morka and his cohorts are clearly delusional,” the statement read.
PDP Accuses APC of Using Pressure and Inducement
According to the PDP, the ruling party has relied on “force and inducement” to engineer large-scale defections from opposition ranks but insisted that Nigerians continue to reject the APC at the grassroots.
The party argued that the APC’s struggles with membership registration in several states reflected a lack of genuine support among Nigerians.
“Interestingly, reality shows that despite the large-scale defections secured by force and inducement by the APC, Nigerians have consistently rejected the ruling party which is daily ruining Nigeria and Nigerians,” the statement said.
It further alleged irregularities in the APC’s membership drive, claiming that some state governors populated party registers using existing databases from state empowerment programmes.
“This is evident in the struggle their party has had with membership registration, where in many states governors have copied the database of state empowerment programmes to populate their state registers,” the PDP added.
Reference to Owerri Event
The party also cited the reported disruption of a recent “City Boys” event in Owerri as a sign of growing public dissatisfaction with the ruling party.
“The recent disruption of the City Boys event in Owerri is a foreshadow of what awaits them all over the country,” the PDP stated.
Harsh Words for APC Leadership
In one of the most strongly worded sections of the statement, the PDP accused Morka of spreading propaganda and drew historical comparisons to the propaganda machinery of Nazi Germany.
“For Morka, who is struggling to become a modern-day Joseph Goebbels, he should remember that delusional propaganda does not just destroy a nation but ultimately consumes its proponents, as it did in Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler,” the statement read.
The party also criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the APC spokesman of defending what it described as the government’s anti-democratic actions.
“His defence of the political genocide of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu APC-led Federal Government, is akin to Goebbels’ defence of Hitler’s pogroms and concentration camps,” the statement added.
Warning Over Historical Judgment
The PDP concluded by warning that individuals who defend the current administration would be judged harshly by history.
“We can assure Morka and his ilk in the ruining APC government that when the history of this period is written and the mortal threat to democracy is documented, his name will be boldly written in the pages of infamy as one of those who actively defended the Tinubu maladministration,” the statement said.
