Former presidential candidate Peter Obi paid his final respects to the late Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Italy.
Mr. Obi, who was a member of the Scholars Occultantes, an international circle of thinkers founded by Pope Francis, described the late pontiff as a “moral light in a world darkened by inequality and indifference.”
In a statement, Obi reflected on Pope Francis’ legacy, highlighting his commitment to humility, simplicity, and selfless service. He noted that the late pope’s life was a testament to leadership rooted in compassion, truth, and service to the poor and marginalized.
Obi, who met Pope Francis on three occasions, described the pontiff as a man who radiated peace and inspired faith.
He urged leaders, particularly in Africa, to reflect on Pope Francis’ life and values, and to commit to leading with conscience, walking with the people, and governing with love.
“Let this moment not just be one of mourning, but a call to lead with conscience, walk with the people, and govern with love,” Obi said.
“May Pope Francis’ soul rest in perfect peace, and may his legacy live on in all who seek to serve humanity se
