Peter Obi Presidency Is a Collective Nigerian Project, Obidient Movement Insists

The Obidient Movement has issued a firm clarification following what it described as deliberate distortions and malicious propaganda linked to a recent interview by its National Coordinator, Dr Tanko Yunusa.

In a press statement titled “THE PETER OBI PRESIDENCY: A JOINT PROJECT OF ALL NIGERIANS,” the movement said the misrepresentations made it necessary to restate its position clearly and authoritatively.

According to the statement, the Obidient Movement is an organic, nationwide and values-driven democratic platform dedicated to good governance, accountability and the rule of law. It stressed that its sole objective is to ensure the emergence of the right leadership for Nigeria through lawful and democratic processes.

The group stated unequivocally that its ideals, energy and collective resolve are fully committed to the presidential ambition of Mr Peter Obi. It added that the movement reserves the right to align with any political party that reflects the person, principles and leadership vision of Mr Obi.

The movement explained that its support for the former Anambra State governor is based on a strong conviction that, among all leading contenders for the presidency, he stands out in competence, integrity, compassion, vision, discipline, economic expertise, democratic credentials, international credibility and a consistent record of prudent leadership.

It further expressed confidence that this belief is shared by a clear majority of Nigerians across all geo-political zones, age groups and political backgrounds.

Making its position unmistakably clear, the movement declared: “The Obidient Movement is not mobilised to support Mr Peter Obi as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone. Our support is exclusively for his emergence as President of Nigeria.”

On the current political process, the statement noted that the movement is presently backing Mr Obi on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the race for its presidential ticket. It said it would respect the outcome of the process if it is transparent, credible and fair, but warned that any compromise would prompt a united, lawful and democratic response in line with its core values.

The Obidient Movement also emphasised that wherever Mr Obi, acting within the law and guided by conscience, decides to pursue his presidential mandate, the movement will stand with him. It said its loyalty is to his leadership vision and Nigeria’s national redemption, not to political convenience or compromised platforms.

While reaffirming its commitment to peaceful and democratic engagement, the movement said it would not sacrifice its principles or demand for credible leadership for expediency. It recalled that it has endured sacrifice, resistance and misrepresentation due to its sincere belief in a better Nigeria, and vowed not to be distracted or intimidated by misinformation or partisan attacks.

Reiterating its resolve, the movement said its commitment to the realization of a Peter Obi presidency remains unshakable, describing it as the surest path to national renewal, economic recovery and accountable governance.
