Peter Obi urges Nigerians to show love in action This Valentine’s Day

Ahead of Valentine’s Day, former Vice Presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on Nigerians, especially the youth, to express love through meaningful action for the nation.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Obi wrote:
“My dear young people of Nigeria, this Valentine’s Day, let us celebrate with responsibility. St. Valentine reminds us that love is not just emotion; it is sacrifice, discipline, and commitment to what is right — honesty, compassion, respect, and devotion to the common good.”

He urged citizens to renew their dedication to the country, emphasizing that a nation, like a living being, thrives when nurtured with care. “Loving Nigeria means promoting fair elections, rejecting vices like corruption, greed, division, and mediocrity, and supporting only those with capacity, commitment, and character,” he added.

Obi also highlighted the importance of constructive patriotism: “True patriotism also means pointing out faults and proposing solutions, while promoting human and developmental values — justice, competence, transparency, and investment in education and healthcare. Where corruption destroys opportunity, integrity restores it; where division breeds conflict, unity fosters progress.”

Concluding his message, the former Anambra Governor reminded Nigerians that love can be transformative when paired with action: “On this Valentine’s Day, let us embrace love that strengthens families, communities, and our nation. A new Nigeria is possible when love becomes action. Happy Valentine’s Day to you all.”

Obi’s message resonates amid growing calls for civic responsibility and national unity, encouraging young people and all citizens to demonstrate love not just as emotion, but as purposeful, nation-building action.
