Peter Obi Visits Fire-Ravaged Agulu School, Begins Reconstruction Support with N10m

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated N10 million towards the reconstruction of Practising Primary School, Agulu, in Anambra State, following the destruction of part of the historic institution by fire last year.

Obi disclosed this o Thursday in a post shared on his X handle after visiting the school on May 21, describing the institution as a vital educational landmark that has served generations since its establishment in 1922.

According to him, the fire incident destroyed a historic building within the school premises, creating an urgent need for rebuilding and improved learning facilities for the pupils.

Reflecting on an earlier visit to the school, Obi said he had pledged support for the reconstruction project and the creation of a more conducive learning environment for the children.

“Our Children Deserve Enhanced Learning Environments,” Obi stated.

“Today, May 21st, I had the opportunity to visit Practising Primary School in Agulu, my hometown, which has been a cornerstone of education since its establishment in 1922. Unfortunately, the school suffered significant damage from a fire last year, resulting in the loss of a historical building that had educated generations.”

He added, “During a previous visit, I committed to supporting the school’s reconstruction and to helping create a modern, supportive environment for the students.”

The former Anambra governor said he was delighted to return to the school to fulfill part of that promise by presenting an initial donation of N10 million to kick-start the rebuilding effort.

“This morning, I was pleased to return and deliver an initial amount of 10 million Naira to help initiate the rebuilding process. Education is a crucial investment for any community, and restoring schools is essential for renewing hope and ensuring a brighter future,” he said.

Obi also used the opportunity to encourage the students to remain committed to their studies, stressing the importance of discipline and hard work in shaping their future.

“I also took the time to engage with the students, encouraging them to take their education seriously. Their future will be shaped by the discipline, effort, and dedication they demonstrate today,” he added.
