Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has reiterated the need for purposeful leadership and national unity following a strategic visit to Kaduna State as part of his ongoing nationwide consultations.
In a post shared on his X handle on Sunday, Obi disclosed that he met with key party stakeholders, including Dr. Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani, a gubernatorial hopeful, and Senator Lawal Adamu, who represents Kaduna Central.
Reflecting on the engagement, he said, “What I observed in them was not just political ambition but a sincere desire to serve the people and contribute to the rebuilding of our country.”
Obi described Kaduna as a critical state in Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape, noting its historical role as a symbol of unity and a hub for industry, agriculture, and commerce.
According to him, “Kaduna remains a very strategic state in Nigeria. It was once a symbol of our unity and coexistence… and it still holds that potential.” He stressed that with “disciplined, competent, and people-oriented leadership,” the state could reclaim its past glory.
The former Anambra State governor also underscored the importance of social cohesion, warning that division remains a major obstacle to progress. “A divided society cannot progress, but a united, just, and inclusive one will always find a path to peace and development,” he stated, calling for renewed efforts to rebuild trust among citizens.
During his interactions, Obi said he challenged political leaders to shift focus away from financial influence in politics.
“I emphasized the need for our leaders to move away from the politics of money and to embrace the politics of competence, character, and measurable results,” he added.
Expressing optimism at the end of the visit, Obi noted that the engagement reinforced his belief in Nigeria’s potential for transformation.
“This visit has strengthened my belief that with the right leadership and collective effort, we can build a Nigeria that works… I leave Kaduna feeling encouraged and hopeful that a New Nigeria is POssible.”
