Plateau State Government has announced a further relaxation of the curfew imposed on Jos North Local Government Area following what it described as a gradual return of peace after recent attacks in Angwan Rukuba.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, said the decision was taken after consultations with security agencies monitoring the situation in the area.
According to the statement, the new curfew adjustment will take effect from Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
“Following the relative peace being experienced in Jos North Local Government Area after the attacks at Angwan Rukuba, government in consultation with security agencies, has further relaxed the curfew hours earlier imposed on Jos North LGA,” the statement read.
The government explained that under the new directive, residents would now be allowed to move freely between 6am and 6pm daily, while the dusk-to-dawn curfew would remain in force.
“Effective Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, curfew will be relaxed in Jos North LGA as from 6am to 6pm daily. Citizens are therefore urged to be mindful of this development and carry out their lawful duties within the relaxed hours not affected by curfew, while ensuring to observe the enforced curfew period of dusk to dawn (6pm to 6am).”
Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang also directed security agencies to ensure strict compliance with the revised curfew order to sustain the fragile peace in the area.
“Additionally, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has directed all security agencies to strictly enforce the curfew to ensure the protection of lives and property, as well as to restore calm in the affected areas.”
The state government further urged residents to cooperate with security operatives and support ongoing efforts to maintain peace.
“Residents are advised to remain indoors during curfew hours, cooperate with security agencies, and share any useful information that will support efforts to maintain peace and order.”
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that further reviews of the curfew would depend on continued improvements in the security situation.
The curfew was initially imposed following violent attacks in Angwan Rukuba, which heightened tensions and raised security concerns in parts of Jos North Local Government Area.
