Police nab nephew and his friends for killing his aunt and her 6 children in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects in connection with the tragic k+lling of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano metropolis.

The suspects Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, from Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called Wawo, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada were arrested during an intelligence-led sting operation. Police revealed that Auwalu, identified as the leader of the group, is a nephew of the deceased woman.

The att@ck reportedly occurred on January 17, 2026, when the victims were k+lled inside their home by unknown ass+ilants. A distress call made shortly after the incident alerted the police and triggered a coordinated investigation ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and overseen by the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were apprehended between 10:00 p.m. on January 17 and 4:00 a.m. on January 18. During interrogation, Auwalu allegedly confessed and disclosed that the group had been involved in similar attacks in the past.

Police further alleged that the same syndicate was behind other vi%lent cr+mes in Kano, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters. Items recovered from the suspects include blood-stained clothing, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a locally made club known as gora, cash believed to have been stolen from the house, and other weapons.

Investigations are ongoing to identify possible accomplices and uncover the full extent of the suspects’ activities, while the police commended officers involved in the operation and thanked members of the public for their cooperation and useful information.
