Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has criticised Peter Obi over his pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027, arguing that the former Labour Party presidential candidate has a history of abandoning political commitments.
In a post shared on his X handle, Onanuga said Nigerians should be cautious about trusting Obi’s latest political promise, citing his movement across different political parties over the years.
“If you believe Peter Obi’s promise to serve only one term as president, you’ll believe anything,” Onanuga wrote.
The presidential aide recalled Obi’s time in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), claiming the former Anambra State governor once publicly pledged loyalty to the party and vowed never to leave it.
According to him, Obi had also assured the late APGA leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, popularly known as Ikemba, of his commitment to remain in the party.
“He gave his word to the Ikemba, even on his deathbed, swearing loyalty and fidelity to APGA,” Onanuga stated, adding that Obi later left the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before moving across other political platforms.
“By his own actions, Peter Obi has shown that his word cannot be trusted. His promises are as fleeting as his political allegiances,” the presidential spokesman added.
