Enyimba International Football Club of Aba on Friday thrashed Abia Warriors Feeders of Umuahia 3-0 in the ongoing Abia edition of the 2025 President Federation Cup competition.
In the match played at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, Clinton Japhta scored in the 35th minute to open scores.
Alade Balogun made it 2-0 from a rebound after Japhta’s header was parried by the goalkeeper.
After the interval, Enyimba took the game to the Warriors Feeders side and extended their lead in the 69th minute after an own goal.
This was after an Abia Warriors Feeders defender whipped the ball into his team’s net in an attempt to clear a pullout by Ebube Nwachukwu.
In a post-interview, Abia Warriors Feeders coach, Madubuike Igwe, said while the match was tough the result did not portray the quality of the game.
“My target before this match was to win, because it was a football match and it was 11 players in the pitch for each team.
“Moreover, this is a Cup competition and it does not matter the quality of team you are facing. So, we planned to take the day,” he said.
The coach said his team did not concede more goals after the interval because he encouraged the players during the break to make the second 45 minutes count in their favour.
He noted that his defender could not be blamed for scoring against his team, saying such was part of football and could happen to any player
