Tensions between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the state assembly have escalated as lawmakers rejected a N100,000 Christmas gift from the governor.
According to a statement by Enemi Alabo George, chairman of the House Committee on Information and Petitions, the legislators received credit alerts of N100,000 each on Fubara’s instructions.
“The assembly members, loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike, described the funds as “unapproved and unsolicited.”
The lawmakers have moved to return the money, taking “immediate steps to formally refund the amount to the account of the Rivers State Government,” signaling their disapproval of the governor’s gesture.
