Sanwo-Olu wins Ikorodu royal fathers’ backing, endorses Hamzat for 2027 Lagos governorship

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has publicly endorsed his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as the right person to sustain the state’s development, describing him as a dependable partner with the experience and leadership qualities needed to take Lagos forward.

The governor made the declaration after he and Hamzat paid a visit to the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, and other traditional rulers in Ikorodu Division on Thursday.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the royal fathers gave them a warm reception and expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Hamzat and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reflecting on the visit, the governor wrote: “Earlier today, my deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and I spent time with the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi and other respected royal fathers across the division.”

He added: “Their warm welcome and strong backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and other Lagos APC candidates ahead of 2027 mean a lot to us.”

Sanwo-Olu also used the opportunity to commend Hamzat for his contributions to the administration, describing him as a loyal and trusted partner in governance.

“Dr. Obafemi Hamzat has been a reliable brother and partner in governing this state. His experience and steady leadership make him the right person to take the baton and keep Lagos moving forward seamlessly.”

The governor stressed that Lagos remains too important to risk losing the momentum of its development, expressing confidence that continuity in leadership would guarantee sustained progress.

“Lagos is simply too important to leave to chance. Together, we are making sure our progress never stops.”
