The Senate has approved the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) ₦11.074 trillion revenue target following the Service’s outstanding revenue performance in 2025.
The approval was granted on Monday, 6 July 2026, during the presentation of the Service’s budget proposal before the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff. Presenting the proposal, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, said the Service generated ₦7.277 trillion in 2025, surpassing its ₦6.584 trillion target by ₦674 billion.
Adeniyi also disclosed that Customs had realised ₦4.43 trillion as of 31 May 2026, representing significant progress towards the approved 2026 revenue target. He explained that the projection comprises collections from the Federation Account, non-Federation accounts, Import VAT and the four per cent Free-on-Board levy.
The CGC further expressed confidence that the Service would achieve its 2026 target through the full deployment of the B’Odogwu trade management platform, enhanced post-clearance audits, improved trade facilitation and intensified anti-smuggling operations.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff, Isah Jibrin, commended the Service for its reforms, describing them as instrumental in strengthening revenue generation, enhancing anti-smuggling operations and improving trade facilitation.
The Committee subsequently approved the Service’s ₦1.235 trillion expenditure proposal through a voice vote, expressing confidence in the ongoing modernisation initiatives under the current Customs leadership.
