Shettima Says Tinubu Won’t Slow Women Empowerment Drive Ahead of 2027

Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu’s administration will not relent in implementing policies and programmes aimed at empowering women across the country, describing women as the backbone of national development.

Shettima gave the assurance on Monday while receiving members of the Nigerian Women for Tinubu/Shettima 2027 (NWFTAS 2027), an All Progressives Congress (APC) women support group campaigning for the re-election of President Tinubu and the Vice President.

He said the administration remains committed to removing barriers limiting women’s participation in national development, stressing that empowering women is critical to Nigeria’s economic growth and social stability.

According to the Vice President, every nation is judged by how it treats its women, noting that the Tinubu administration will continue to support initiatives that improve their welfare and expand opportunities for them.

“Women are the backbone of every society, and the growth and stability of every society. A nation is judged by the way they treat their women,” Shettima said.

He also conveyed President Tinubu’s goodwill to the group, assuring them of the administration’s maximum support for their programmes and activities.

Earlier, the National Coordinator and Convener of the group, CSI Elsie Morgan Mangai (rtd), said members were at the Presidential Villa to brief the Vice President on the group’s activities and reaffirm their commitment to mobilising women and other Nigerians to support the APC ticket in the 2027 presidential election.

Mangai said the group believes President Tinubu deserves another term to consolidate ongoing economic reforms, which she likened to “resetting a broken bone” that requires time to heal before the benefits become fully visible.

She maintained that members were convinced Nigeria was being led by “a good captain” capable of steering the country to greater stability and prosperity.

The convener also praised Shettima for promoting national unity, recalling his statement that “what binds us together supersedes what divides us,” which she said continues to inspire members of the organisation.

Mangai further commended the Vice President’s humility, loyalty to President Tinubu and peaceful leadership style, describing them as qualities worthy of emulation by younger generations.

She added that the decision to adopt the name “Tinubu/Shettima 2027” reflected the group’s admiration for the strong working relationship between both leaders and their confidence in the administration’s reform agenda.
