Nigeria’s Super Falcons booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final Group C match on Wednesday.
The Falcons took control from the outset and never looked back, producing a clinical attacking display to record one of the biggest wins of the tournament.
Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Gift Monday doubled Nigeria’s lead with a well-taken finish. Uchenna Kanu added the third as the nine-time African champions piled the pressure on the Egyptians.
Egypt responded through Ghazi, who grabbed a brace, including a penalty, but Nigeria always had the answers.
Christy Ucheibe converted Nigeria’s second penalty of the night to restore the three-goal cushion before captain Rasheedat Ajibade made it five from the spot after another foul inside the box. Joy Omewa completed the rout with the Falcons’ sixth goal to cap a dominant performance.
The encounter produced eight goals and four penalties, but it was Nigeria’s sharp movement, quick passing and ruthless finishing that made the difference.
The emphatic win sees the Super Falcons advance to the last eight with momentum firmly on their side as they continue their chase for a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
With confidence high and their attack clicking at the right time, Nigeria will head into the knockout stage believing they have what it takes to go all the way.
