The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has urged the 2022 Batch B Stream 1 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state to take advantage of the free skill aquisition training in their camp.
Tambuwal stated this yesterday during the swearing-in of Batch B Stream 1 corps members deployed in the state at Wamakko permanent orientation camp.
Represented by the state Coordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Muhammad Nakamba, the governor said the programme has created entrepreneurs and employer of labours.
He further explained that with the dearth of employment opportunities in the country, “NYSC, in it wisdom, introduced the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship department (SAED) into the orientation course content.”
Tambuwal also pledged enhanced welfare for the corps members, stressing that the scheme has over the years played a vital role in enhancing national integration, social, cultural and physical development of the country, and enjoined the corps members to sustain the tempo.
He said: “At this critical time, I enjoin you to be the vanguard of promoting national unity in line with the fundamental objectives of the scheme.”
Tambuwal promised to prioritise their security and welfare irrespective of any part of the state they are posted to.
According to him, “You know the security challenges in the country presently, but I assure you that your security is guaranteed here in Sokoto State.”
Earlier, the state Coordinator, Nakamba, urged the corps members to be disciplined, saying camp life is not an easy one but regimental.
He stated that NYSC would reward dedicated corps members at the end of their service year, stressing that if they want to be a beneficiary, they can start from the camp.
Meanwhile, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Muhammad Sai’du Sifawa, represented by the Chief Magistrate, Maryam Muhammad Sifawa, administered an oath to the 1,467 corps members, comprising 707 males and 760 females.
