Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the country’s women for their indispensable contributions to nation-building, describing them as the “bedrock of our nation”.
“On this #InternationalWomensDay , I celebrate the resilience, brilliance, and indispensable contributions of Nigerian women.
“You are the bedrock of our nation, driving progress from our homes to our farms, boardrooms, and communities. Yet, 30 years after the Beijing Declaration, too many still face barriers that limit their potential”, Tinubu said in a statement on Saturday to mark the 2025 International Women’s Day, with the theme: “Accelerate Action”
He acknowledged the progress made in promoting women’s rights, but also recognized the persisting barriers that limit women’s potential.
Despite being 30 years since the Beijing Declaration, women in Nigeria still face significant obstacles, including limited access to finance, unequal opportunities in governance and agriculture, and societal barriers.
However, Tinubu’s administration has pledged to address these challenges through its Renewed Hope agenda, which aims to dismantle obstacles, expand access to finance, and ensure equitable opportunities for women in all sectors.
“Our administration is committed in our Renewed Hope pledge to dismantle obstacles, expand access to finance, and ensure equitable opportunities in governance, agriculture, and every sector”, he said.
Tinubu’s message emphasized the crucial role women play in driving progress in Nigeria, from homes to farms, boardrooms, and communities.
He encouraged Nigerian women to continue striving for excellence, saying, “To our mothers, daughters, sisters–your strength fuels Nigeria’s future. Together, we rise!”
“Happy International Women’s Day”, he said.
