President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Paris, France, and is on his way back to Nigeria after concluding his working vacation abroad.
The President is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos later on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu chose to return to Lagos first to honour the late Chief MKO Abiola, widely regarded as a symbol of Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
On Nigeria’s Independence Day, the President will attend the premiere of a movie celebrating the life and legacy of Abiola, the widely acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. The event will take place at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
While in Lagos, President Tinubu is also expected to hold strategic meetings with political leaders and close associates as part of preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The President left Abuja on August 30 for his working vacation. He spent one week in London before travelling to Paris, France.
During his stay in Paris, Tinubu attended a private dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron. He also met with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, whose investments span media, logistics and digital services, including Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.
On Monday, the President held talks with the Chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola.
Last week, Tinubu also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of the proposed Gateway Deep Seaport and the Blue Marine Economic Zone in Ogun Waterside.
The project is expected to attract about 7 billion dollars in investment and boost Nigeria’s maritime sector, trade and job creation.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja after completing his scheduled political engagements in Lagos.
