In a striking revelation, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has admitted that four years is insufficient for a political officeholder to enact “meaningful changes,” yet he is allegedly leading a group of politicians plotting to unseat President Bola Tinubu just two years into his tenure.
This contradiction was highlighted in a statement by Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Sunday, who praised Tinubu’s administration for delivering transformative reforms despite opposition from “political desperados.”
Onanuga’s statement, shared via a post on X, underscored the significant strides made by President Tinubu’s administration in just two years.
“In contrast to the political laggards and underachievers who were once governors in Anambra, Rivers, and Kaduna, President Tinubu and his team have implemented meaningful changes in our country, positioning us on the path of prosperity,” Onanuga declared.
According to him, the administration’s achievements include a robust economic turnaround, with Nigeria’s foreign reserves reaching their highest level in 44 months and the All-Share Index (ASI) soaring from 53,000 to over 140,000 points, creating over N26 trillion in additional wealth in the stock market.
“The exchange rate has been harmonized, arbitrage eliminated, and investment inflow has increased,” Onanuga noted, adding that the inflation rate has declined for four consecutive months while GDP has grown by N103.5 trillion in two years.
He said social interventions have also been a cornerstone of Tinubu’s agenda. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has supported indigent students, and vulnerable Nigerians are receiving cash transfers through the Humanitarian Ministry.
Onanuga emphasized, “National revenue has increased phenomenally, enabling states and local councils to receive more funds from the center, allowing them to embark on capital projects and create jobs. Governors have said they have never had it so good.”
Despite these accomplishments, Onanuga alleged that “power-hungry politicians,” including El-Rufai, are scheming to remove Tinubu, driven by their own political irrelevance.
“May they never succeed in their plot against our nation and people,” he stated, urging supporters to preserve evidence of El-Rufai’s remarks for future accountability.
