Nollywood actress and evangelist Tonto Dikeh is facing a ₦200 million lawsuit after a video of her performing a deliverance session on a schoolgirl went viral on X. The lawsuit was filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, by human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi on behalf of a Junior Secondary School 1 student from Durumi II, Abuja.
The video, posted on March 6, 2026, spread quickly across social media, sparking heated debate over whether such religious interventions with minors are appropriate or safe.
According to court documents shared on X, the child was laid on bare ground and pressed against a stony surface during the session, exposing her to public shame.
The suit asks the court to declare that Dikeh’s actions violated the minor’s rights.
It also seeks an order to remove the video and related images from all platforms, a public apology from the actress, a perpetual injunction to prevent similar incidents, and ₦200 million in damages.
Even popular social commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM) weighed in following the viral video. He expressed strong disapproval of the incident and said it made him question the logic behind such deliverances, asking whether it is only the poor and less privileged who are possessed, while those born rich are considered “clean” and in no need of spiritual intervention. He also noted that he had personally helped renovate the school in Durumi, emphasizing that children in the area should not be subjected to public exposure or used for content creation.
As of now, no hearing date has been set and Dikeh has not made any public statement.
The case first drew attention on X, where users shared the clip and discussed the legality and risks of recording or sharing such interventions involving children.
