Troops intercept 296 large wraps of cannabis sativa in Ogun

In a bid to make Ogun State free from drugs and drug-related activities, troops of the 35 Artillery Brigade, acting on a strategic tip-off, moved in on the planned movement of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa along the Abeokuta–Igboora Road at about 4:30 a.m. on March 1, 2026.

During the operation, the troops intercepted a motorcycle without a registration number and recovered 296 large wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp), which were concealed in three massive sacks.

Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade, Major Idereghi Akari, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Major Akari said the suspect abandoned his unregistered motorcycle and fled into the dense bush under the cover of darkness.

He said the recovered items have been handed over to the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency(NDLEA), Ogun State Command for further action.

According to him, the 35 Artillery Brigade has stated its resolve to make the State unsafe for drug traffickers and other criminal elements and urged them to engage in legitimate businesses or find themselves in the net of security agencies.

“The Brigade wishes to reassure the general public and the good people of Ogun State that the Nigerian Army remains fully committed to protecting lives and properties, maintaining robust presence across the State and to prevent criminals from operating with impunity.
