Troops rescue 6 kidnap victims after escape from bandits in Katsina

Six kidnap victims, including four women and two children, have been rescued by troops of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, after escaping from their abductors in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade, Captain Abayomi Adisa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the victims were found during a routine foot patrol by troops deployed at Unguwan Doka on Sunday, June 29, 2026.

According to the statement, the troops came across the victims wandering in the bush shortly after they escaped from their captors and immediately took them to safety.

The rescued victims were identified as Umaima Isiaku, 30; Amina Isiaku, 16; Safiya Isiaku, 15; Ramatu Suleiman, 30; Muhammad Shehu, 4; and Ibrahim Suleiman, 2.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were abducted by armed bandits from Unguwan Lado in Kankara Local Government Area on June 22.

The troops administered first aid, provided food and other immediate assistance before reuniting the victims with their families.

The Commander of the 17 Brigade, Brigadier General Ishaya Ibrahim, reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining operations against criminal elements and protecting lives and property across its area of responsibility.
