Trump: Iran deal to be signed Sunday, Hormuz Strait to re-open

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that a new agreement with Iran is scheduled to be signed on Sunday, stating that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened to all international traffic immediately after the deal takes effect.

Trump described the agreement as the complete opposite of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, arguing that his deal would permanently prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

He claimed Iran no longer seeks nuclear weapons and pledged that no money would exchange hands as part of the arrangement.

Trump also said the United States would eventually oversee the removal and destruction of Iran’s remaining nuclear materials and expressed hope for stronger long-term relations with Iran and the wider Middle East.

However, he warned that Washington has “the ultimate alternative” if the diplomatic process fails.

While U.S. and Pakistani officials have expressed optimism that the deal will be finalized within 24 hours, Iranian officials have indicated that some issues remain unresolved and have questioned the proposed timeline for signing.
