United States (US) Mission in Nigeria has condemned the deadly attack on communities in Kwara State that reportedly claimed the lives of more than 160 people, describing the violence as horrific and senseless.
In a statement shared via its official X handle, @USinNigeria, the U.S. expressed deep sympathy with the victims and their families while acknowledging efforts by the Nigerian government to restore peace and provide relief.
“The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara state in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of more than 160 people, with the death toll still unconfirmed and many still unaccounted for,” the statement read.
The U.S. Mission extended condolences to those affected by the violence, stressing the tragic human cost of the attack.
“We express our deepest condolences to the families of those affected by this senseless violence.”
The Mission also welcomed decisive actions taken by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly the deployment of security forces to protect vulnerable communities and the directive to bring those responsible to justice.
“We welcome President Tinubu’s order to deploy security forces to protect villages in the area and his directive to federal and state officials to provide aid to the community and bring the perpetrators of this atrocity to justice.”
Earlier, President Tinubu had strongly condemned the attacks on Nuku and Woro villages in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing them as acts of terror aimed at destabilising peaceful communities.
In response, the President ordered the immediate deployment of Nigerian Army troops and other security operatives to the affected areas to restore calm, protect lives and prevent further attacks.
As part of federal intervention, President Tinubu also approved the deployment of a high-level federal government delegation, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, to Kwara State to commiserate with the victims and assess the situation on the ground.
In addition, the President directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to mobilise all necessary resources, in collaboration with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency, to provide relief materials, medical assistance and other forms of support to the distressed communities.
The federal government has assured residents that all perpetrators behind the attacks will be identified and prosecuted, while security operations continue to stabilise the area and prevent further loss of lives.
