UEFA has confirmed that European champions Paris Saint-Germain will face Europa League winners Aston Villa in the 2026 UEFA Super Cup on August 12 in Salzburg, Austria.
The fixture, which traditionally brings together the winners of Europe’s two major club competitions, will be played at the RB Arena. The match will also be the first UEFA club final ever staged in Salzburg.
Transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano, was among those who shared confirmation of the fixture on Saturday, setting the stage for one of the standout early-season contests in European football.
PSG booked their place in the Super Cup after retaining the UEFA Champions League title, while Villa earned their spot by lifting the Europa League trophy under Unai Emery.
The game will carry added significance beyond the trophy itself. It will be the first piece of European silverware on offer in the new season and an early chance for both clubs to show they can maintain the standards that brought them continental success last term.
For PSG, victory would further cement their position among Europe’s leading sides after years of chasing sustained success at the highest level. The French champions have now become a regular force deep into the latter stages of European competition and will be aiming to add another UEFA title to their growing collection.
Villa, on the other hand, have the opportunity to make another statement on the continental stage. Their Europa League triumph marked one of the club’s biggest achievements in recent decades, and defeating the reigning Champions League holders would be another significant milestone in Emery’s rebuilding project.
There is also recent history between the two sides. They met in last season’s Champions League quarter-finals, with Aston Villa winning the second leg 3-2 at Villa Park. PSG, however, advanced to the semi-finals after securing a 5-4 aggregate victory.
The meeting in Salzburg therefore offers Villa a chance to gain a measure of revenge, while PSG will be looking to underline why they remain the team to beat in Europe.
Kick-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. local time on August 12, with thousands of supporters expected to descend on Salzburg for the continent’s traditional season-opening showdown.
