UNIZIK expels student for assaulting lecturer in viral TikTok video

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has approved the expulsion of Precious Chimamaka Goddy-Mbakwe over alleged assault on Dr Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer at the institution.

Acting Head, Information, Public Relations and Protocol, UNIZIK, Mr Louis Njelita, disclosed this in a statement on Friday and made available to newsmen in Awka.

It would be recalled that the incident unfolded while Precious was recording a TikTok video. Dr. Okoye approached her, asking that she delete the footage. However, Precious refused and physically attacked the lecturer, biting him. The dramatic confrontation was captured on video and subsequently went viral.

Giving an update on the incident, Njelita said: “The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, wishes to update the public on the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings regarding the recent incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies.

“The actors involved were given a fair hearing by the Students Disciplinary Committee (SDC).

“After a thorough review by the committee, the act committed by Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, a 300-level student in the Department of History and International Studies, was deemed a gross misconduct and a violation of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Students Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).

“Based on the committee’s findings and recommendations, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, on behalf of the University Senate, has approved the immediate expulsion of Precious Chimamaka Goddy-Mbakwe from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka,” he said.

Njelita urged the affected student to vacate the University premises immediately and return all University property in her possession.

He said that the University management, under the leadership of Prof. Ikechebelu, remained committed to maintaining the integrity of the institution by upholding discipline, ensuring a safe and conducive environment for learning.
