President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country is gradually overcoming its economic and security challenges, declaring that “the walk through the dark tunnel is over” as Muslims across the nation celebrate the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir festival.
In his Eid message released on Tuesday, the President extended warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world, urging citizens to embrace sacrifice, unity, compassion, and faith — values symbolised by the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.
Tinubu said the festival serves as a reminder of the virtues demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim, particularly obedience to God and the willingness to make sacrifices for a greater purpose.
“Eid-el-Kabir reminds us of the enduring virtues exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim—faith, obedience, and the willingness to sacrifice for a higher purpose,” the President stated.
According to him, Nigerians must use the occasion to deepen national unity and extend kindness to one another irrespective of ethnic, religious, or social differences.
“One central lesson of Eid-el-Kabir is the call to show mercy and compassion, regardless of race, ethnicity, or creed,” he said.
Reflecting on his administration’s economic reforms, Tinubu acknowledged that the policies introduced over the past three years had been difficult for many citizens but insisted they were necessary steps towards rebuilding the nation’s economy.
“As a nation, we are on a journey of reconstruction and renewal. The reforms we have undertaken are challenging but necessary to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria for future generations,” he said.
The President expressed optimism that the country is already witnessing positive outcomes from the reforms.
“Just as sacrifice brings reward, I am happy that the sacrifices and efforts we have made over the past three years have yielded a more stable economy, making our country a preferred investment destination that will drive job creation and economic growth,” Tinubu stated.
“The walk through the dark tunnel is over, and the light is here.”
On security, the President admitted that attacks by terrorists and bandits remain a concern despite recent gains recorded by security agencies.
He referenced the recent killing of a wanted ISIS leader, noting that the government would continue intensifying efforts to restore peace across affected communities.
“I am aware that, despite the best efforts of our security and intelligence agencies—including the recent elimination of a wanted ISIS leader—heartless terrorists and bandits still attack some communities,” he said.
“I assure you: you are neither abandoned nor forgotten. We will ultimately defeat all the forces of evil.”
Tinubu also called on Nigerians to pray for peace, national stability, and wisdom for leaders at all levels during the Sallah celebration.
“To our Muslim faithful, I urge you to use this sacred occasion to pray for our country, for peace in our communities, and for wisdom for those in leadership,” he appealed.
The President further encouraged citizens to support the less privileged and strengthen communal bonds during the festive period.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving security, infrastructure, agriculture, and human capital development, adding that the government remains focused on building a peaceful and prosperous nation where citizens can pursue their aspirations without fear.
Tinubu concluded by wishing Muslims a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration, praying that Allah accepts the sacrifices and prayers of the faithful.
“Eid Mubarak! Happy Sallah!” he said.
