Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for renewed commitment to the fight against viral hepatitis, urging Nigerians to embrace awareness, early testing, treatment and collective action to eliminate the disease as a public health threat.
In a message to commemorate World Hepatitis Day 2026, observed on Tuesday, July 28, the First Lady joined the global community in raising awareness about the disease and stressed the importance of making prevention and treatment services more accessible to everyone.
Referring to this year’s theme, “Hepatitis: Let’s break it down,” Senator Tinubu said the campaign underscores the need to educate more people about viral hepatitis while addressing the obstacles that prevent access to life-saving healthcare.
«”On this World Hepatitis Day 2026, I join the global community in raising awareness about viral hepatitis and the urgent need to expand access to prevention, testing, treatment, and care.”»
She added: “This year’s theme, _’Hepatitis: Let’s break it down,’_ reminds us of the need to increase our resolve to educate people about the disease. We should remove barriers that prevent people from accessing life-saving health services.”
The First Lady also emphasized the importance of tackling discrimination associated with the disease and encouraged stronger collaboration to achieve global health targets.
“Together, we can reduce stigma, promote early diagnosis, and strengthen our commitment to eliminating hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.”
She concluded her message by wishing Nigerians and the international community a meaningful World Hepatitis Day 2026.
