Barcelona beat Real Madrid to win 2025/26 La Liga title

Marcus Rashford delivered the headline moment as Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 2-0 on Sunday night to seal the 2025/26 La Liga title at Camp Nou.

The England forward opened scoring in the 9th minute after Antonio Rudiger brought down Ferran Torres at the edge of the area. Rashford stepped up and curled a brilliant free-kick past Thibaut Courtois to send the home crowd into celebration mode early.

Torres added the second goal in the 18th minute, arriving perfectly to finish off a low cross from teenage winger Lamine Yamal as Barcelona took full control of the contest before halftime.

Rashford’s strike also saw him become the first Barcelona player to score directly from a free-kick in an El Clasico since Lionel Messi achieved the feat against Madrid in 2012.

Beyond the history-making goal, the title win marked Rashford’s first senior league crown after joining Barcelona from Manchester United at the start of the season.

Yamal remained a constant threat throughout the night with his pace and movement troubling Madrid’s defence, while Frenkie de Jong kept Barcelona ticking in midfield as the hosts comfortably managed the game.

Courtois, however, was one of Madrid’s few bright spots despite the defeat. The Belgian goalkeeper produced several important saves in the second half to keep the scoreline respectable, denying Robert Lewandowski twice and reacting quickly to stop Pedri from close range.

For Madrid, the defeat confirmed a second straight season without a trophy, an outcome that is certain to raise fresh questions around the club heading into the summer.

Barcelona’s latest triumph takes their La Liga tally to 29 titles and hands Hansi Flick back-to-back league crowns in just his second season in charge.
